RASHNU
The just judge of Persian mythology, he judges the souls ofthe dead, along with Mithra and Sraosha, and he is not open to persuasion. He weighs the good or bad of a person regardless of their status in life previously. The soul was thought to sit beside the corpse for three days, awaiting Rashnu's verdict. Then, thesaved would be assisted in crossing over the Bridge of Separation by a fair maiden, andled to heaven. The damned, however, woudl find that the bridge was thin as a razor's edge, and would topple down to hell, where a hideous woman was waiting. She passed on the condemned soul to the demons, and they imprisoned it in Druj, the place oftorment.
