PURGATORY In Christian myth, Purgatory is believed to be anintermediatary between Heaven and Hell. Souls judged not evil enough to beconsigned to the Flames, but not yet pure enough for Heaven, are believed to be sentthere, where they await the intercession of those on Earth, who can secure their releaseby prayers. The basic belief is that, once a soul has been purged of its evil, it may thenpass through the gates of Paradise.
