PACHACAMAC An ancient creator deity of Peru, Pachacamac forgot to provide his newly-created people with food, and when the man died of starvation, the woman accused the god of neglect, whereupon he made her fertile. Pachacamac killed the son she bore and cut the corpse into pieces, from which grew vegetables and fruits. He was, however, unable to catch the second son, so instead slew the mother. The son, Wichama, pursued the god and drove him into the sea, to avenge his mother's death.
