MITHRA The most popular of the gods worshipped in Persia, Mithra was the son of Ahura Mazdah, and from his penetrating gaze nothing could be hidden. Mithra knew everything, no matter how small, and he was the terrible war god of the Persians, the special protector of warriors. His weapons were deadly arrows, a huge mace, incurable diseases, and the boar Verethraghna, who smashed everything with one blow, and destroyed men who broke faith with their god.
