GRENDEL The monster which plagued the lands of King Hrothgar of Denmark, terrible to behold, a ravener of the night, a prowler of the dark, which the Anglo-Saxon hero Beowulf sought and fought, chopping off the monster's arm after a long struggle. Beowulf later skew Grendel's mother, and finding the creature on its deathbed, finished off Grendel itself.
