AJAX
Son of Telamon, Ajax was, with Achilles, the leader of the Greeks during the initial years of the Trojan War. After the death of Achilles, the hero's body was borne back to the Greek camp by Ajax and Odysseus. Thereafter, Achilles' wonderful armor was awarded to Odysseus. Ajax, believing that his neglect had caused---or at least contributed to---the death of his friend, went mad, and fell on his own sword, committing suicide.
