Svetlana Pesotskaya (born 9th January 1975) is a television reporter from Russia. She has gained wide domestic (as well as some international) attention for her practice of stripping during her newscasts. Pesotskaya was an actress and model before she got her job as a television journalist.
After communism, Russian television channels have struggled somewhat trying to keep on the air, because many of them only had old videos and made for television American movies to show. Because of the consequencial television job unstability, many involved in the entertainment business in Russia have decided to attract viewers by showing more nudity on their shows. But so far, Pesotskaya is the only television news anchor in the world who is known to take off her clothes on camera, revealing her naked chest. She continues taking off her clothes until the news shows are over, taking off her skirt and occasionally crossing her arms over her exposed top. On one occasion, a member of parliament that she was interviewing took off his clothes in front of the television cameras as well, and another time, a dog got hold of her panties, leaving her wearing her brassiere only.
Pesotskaya was hired by a struggling network, M1, to work at their news show, Golaya Pravda, which actually translates in English language to The Naked Truth. Before her hiring, the show was having problems attracting viewers. After she joined, it became the most widely viewed news show in Russia. Her show also feaures a weather newswoman who takes off her clothes as she gives the day's forecast.
In an MTV documentary about curious television moments, she was wrongly identified as Debra (or Deborah) Norvilovich.
