He currently plays as a left wing for the New York Rangers. Ručínský was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1st round as the 20th overall selection in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft on 22 June 1991. He has played 817 career NHL games, scoring 208 goals and 300 assists for 508 points.
On 25 March 2006 it was announced that New York Rangers left wing Martin Rucinsky will have surgery on his broken finger during the last week of march 2006 and is expected to be out for a month.
Rucinsky sustained a multiple fracture of the finger on his right hand when he was slashed by Florida's Jay Bouwmeester in the third period of New York 3-2 shootout loss to the Panthers.
