Martie Seidel Martie Maguire, (neƩ Erwin), (born October 12, 1969) is a country music songwriter, recording artist and musician, born and residing in Dallas. Martie and her sister Emily started busking on the streets of Dallas Tx back in 1989. Martie is a founding member and leader of the Dixie Chicks. Her sister Emily Robison is also part of the Dixie Chicks. The group has been performing since 1989. Martie plays fiddle and mandolin in the group.
She married Gareth Maguire, a Roman Catholic from Northern Ireland in a civil ceremony in Hawaii, before a Catholic "blessing" ceremony was held in the groom's hometown in County Antrim. Erwin said that the Catholic Church would not permit a wedding service due to her prior marriage which ended in divorce. She also said that some of her husband's co-religionists had referred to her as a "heathen". It is not clear whether she agreed to raise their children as Catholics.
On April 27, 2004 Martie Maguire gave birth to twin daughters. Eva Ruth was born at 8:05 am, weighed 5 lb 13 oz (2.6 kg), and was 19 inches (483 mm) long. Kathleen Emilie was born at 8:08 am, weighed 6 lb 1 oz (2.7 kg), and was 19 inches (483 mm) long.
