Liz Smith (born December 11, 1921) is a British character actress, best known for her appearances in sitcoms such as The Vicar of Dibley. Born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England, Liz Smith was already a mature actress when she first appeared on screen in the early 1970s. Since then her face has become familiar as a result of regular appearances in television series such as Emmerdale, I Didn't Know You Cared, Within These Walls, The Bill, 2point4 Children and The Royle Family.
More recently, she appeared as Grandma Georgina in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and provided the voice of Mrs. Mulch in Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Her most recent project is Keeping Mum in which she played nosy neighbour Mrs. Parker
Liz recently wrote her autobiography entitled Our Betty - Scenes From My Life and is on sale now. She has been married twice, and her partner for many years has been playwright Sybil Tewson.
