Julien Duvivier (October 8, 1896 in Lille - October 30, 1967 in Paris) was a French film director. In the thirties, he is part of the production company "Film d'Art" with Marcel Vandal and Charles Delac, with whom he is working.
He has created a world of images where dark realism is full of a strange imagination. After the Second World War, he gives a pessimistic representation of the French society, shown as dominated by hypochrisy, narrow clericalism, meanness and women's slyness.
