Biography: | Jouett Shouse (1879-1968) was a Kansas state senator (1913), a member of Congress (1915-1919), and President Woodrow Wilson's Assistant Secretary of the Treasury (1919-1920). Shouse was very active in the Democrat Party but left his leadership position there to become president of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment. That organization played an important role in bringing about the repeal of prohibition in 1933. Shouse was later active in the American Liberty League. |
