JOHN CULPEPPER
John Culpepper

Biography:John Culpepper (1761 - 1841) was a Congressional Representative from North Carolina; born near Wadesboro, Anson County, N.C., in 1761; attended the public schools; became a minister in the Baptist Church; presented credentials as a Federalist Member-elect to the Tenth Congress and served from March 4, 1807, until January 2, 1808, when the seat was declared vacant as the result of a contest on account of alleged irregularities; subsequently reelected to fill the vacancy declared by the House of Representatives and served from February 23, 1808, to March 3, 1809; elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses (March 4, 1813-March 3, 1817); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1816 to the Fifteenth Congress; elected as a Federalist to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1821); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1820 to the Seventeenth Congress; elected as an Adams-Clay Federalist to the Eighteenth Congress (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1825); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1824 to the Nineteenth Congress; elected as an Adams to the Twentieth Congress (March 4, 1827-March 3, 1829); declined to be candidate for reelection in 1828 and retired from public life; died at the residence of his son in Darlington County, South Carolina. in January 1841; interment in the cemetery at Society Hill, South Carolina.
