Jacob Thompson (May 15, 1810-March 24, 1885) was a U.S. politician. Thompson was born 1810 in Leasburg, North Carolina. He served as a U.S. Congressman from Mississippi.
Thompson served under James Buchannan's administration as U.S. Secretary of the Interior during 1857-1861. Two months before the end of Buchannan's administration Mississippi seceded and Thompson went home to serve his state.
During the American Civil War he fought on the side of the Confederacy.
