Procter attended East Carolina University, where she tried unsuccessfully to get into the theatre department. She ended up double majoring in journalism and dance. After graduating she worked as a weather girl, then moved to Los Angeles and landed a number of small roles in films such as Jerry Maguire (1996). She has also had a recurring guest role as Associate White House Counsel Ainsley Hayes on NBC's The West Wing. She now stars as Calleigh Duquesne in CSI: Miami.
