Elton Gallegly (born March 7, 1944), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1987, currently representing the 24th District of California (map). He was born in Huntington Park, California, was educated at Los Angeles State College, and was a real estate broker and member of the Simi Valley, California City Council before entering the House. He announced on March 10, 2006 that he would not be seeking reelection in 2006, due to a medical condition. Days later, however, he recanted that statement and announced he would indeed run again. He addressed the "medical condition" he had previously cited for not running by saying he had a clean bill of health from the Congressional Doctor. Gallegly is being challenged by Michael Tenenbaum.
