Earl Pomeroy (born 2 September 1952) is the At-Large Congressman from North Dakota (map). He is a Dem-NPLer and is serving his seventh term. Pomeroy was born in Valley City, North Dakota, and attended Valley City State University. He then transferred to the University of North Dakota, where he earned a bachelor degree in political science and went on to do graduate research in Legal History at the University of Durham. After studying in England, he returned to UND to receive his J.D. in 1979.
Pomeroy was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1980, and became State Insurance Commissioner in 1984. In 1992 he was elected to the U.S. Congress for the sole North Dakota congressional district.
Pomeroy is the ranking member on the Oversight subcommittee of the Ways and Means committee and also serves in the House Committee on Agriculture.
Pomeroy is also a member of the Blue Dog Democrats, an organization of moderate to conservative Democrats in Congress.
Pomeroy makes his home in Mandan, North Dakota, with his two children, Kathryn and Scott.
