| Biography: | E. B. White (July 11, 1899 - October 1, 1985) was a leading American essayist, author, and literary stylist. His crisp and graceful writing style prompted James Thurber to once state: "No one can write a sentence like White." As a liberal free-thinker, he often made observations from the perspective of a somewhat ironic onlooker, and he was a spokesman for the freedom of the individual. His writing ranged from satire to textbooks to children's fiction. His writers' style guide, The Elements of Style, remains a well-regarded text today, and his three children's books are generally considered to be classics of the field. |
