Charvet's father was Tunisian-born Jewish businessman Paul Guez. His mother was born in France. When Charvet was nine years old, his father moved to the USA. David Charvet caught his big break in 1992 on Baywatch as "Matt Brody" and remained with the show for three full seasons until 1995. He won a green card through the visa lottery then in place.

He dated Pamela Anderson prior and during the second season. He has never married. He is currently dating Brooke Burke. Charvet also appeared as "Craig Field" on Melrose Place from 1996 to 1998.

He is currently based in his native France where he acts and sings and is seen on TV. He already released 3 albums, David Charvet in 1997, Leap of Faith in 2002 and Se laisser quelque chose in 2004. After his hit-singles "Should I Leave", "Jusqu'au bout" and "Je te dédie", he will release his new single "Sometimes it rains" from the album Se Laisser Quelque Chose in May 2006 in France.
