Dat Phan (born January 25, 1975 in Saigon, Vietnam), is a Vietnamese-American stand-up comedian. When he was a child, he and his mother immigrated to the United States, suffering through financial hardships throughout his childhood. He grew up in Santee, California, a suburb of San Diego. Critics of Dat Phan often say that he includes his mother too much in his jokes and relies heavily on his gimmick of talking in a stereotype Vietnamese accent. In 2003, he entered NBC's reality show, Last Comic Standing. Although not well-liked by the other contestants due to his relative inexperience in professional comedy and his usual aloofness, he overcame many challenges, became a finalist, then eventually won.
