Clay Bellinger (born November 18, 1968 in Oneonta, New York) is a former Major League Baseball player. An attendee of Rollins College, Bellinger played for the New York Yankees in 1999, 2000, and 2001. He played every position (including designated hitter) except for catcher and pitcher. He also played two games at first base for the Anaheim Angels in 2002.
Following his retirement from the major leagues, Bellinger played for the Greek baseball team in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Bellinger is an American born with Greek grandparents, like most of the rest of that team.
Blogger Larry Mahnken jokingly attributes the Yankees' lack of World Series titles since 2000 to a curse resulting from Bellinger's departure. The Angels' world championship in 2002 when Bellinger briefly played for them is cited as evidence for the "curse".
