| Biography: | Chalmers Wylie as a U.S. Congressional Representative from Ohio. He was born in Norwich, Ohio, on November 23, 1920 and grew up in Pataskala. He attended Otterbein College and Ohio State University, and earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1948. He enlisted in United States Army as a private, eventually attaining the rank of first lieutenant while serving with the 30th Infantry Division in Europe during the Second World War. He remained in the Army reserve after the war, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was assistant attorney general of Ohio from 1951 to 1954; assistant city attorney of Columbus, Ohio from 1949 to 1950; elected city attorney of Columbus, Ohio from 1953 to 1956; administrator of Bureau of Workman’s Compensation for the State of Ohio in 1957; appointed first assistant to the Governor of Ohio in 1957; elected president of Ohio Municipal League in 1957; practicing attorney, 1959-1968; served three terms in State Legislature of Ohio, 1961-1967; elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the twelve succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; practiced law in Columbus until his death there on August 14, 1998. |
