Carolyn Dawn Johnson (born April 30th, 1971 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada) is a country music singer and songwriter. She also plays the piano, guitar, and mandolin. She lived in several small communties in Alberta and graduated from RF Staples highschool in Westlock, Alberta. In 1994 she went to Nashville for the first time and traveled back and forth from Canada for three years until she finally settled down permanently in Nashville in 1997.
Johnson has written songs for Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Jo Dee Messina, Chely Wright, Mindy McCready, Lila McCann. Her first penned song to go number one on the country charts was "Single White Female" performed by Chely Wright in 1999. Johnson also wrote all her songs on her first album, "Room with a View" and all but one on her sophomore album, "Dress Rehearsal".
"Room with a View" has the highest debut of an Arista Nashville new artist ever on Soundscan.
She toured with the all-female cast Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Jamie O'Neal, and Martina McBride on "The Girls' Night Out Tour". In 2003 Johnson started her first co-headlining tour with Keith Urban.
She won Female Artist of the year both 2001 and 2002 at the Canadian Country Music Awards. In 2003 She won the Favorite New Artist in the country category at the American Music Awards.
