Anna Neagle Dame Anna Neagle DBE (20 October 1904-3 June 1986), born Florence Marjorie Robertson, was a popular English actress and singer. She was born in Forest Gate, Essex. She had a long career on the English stage and screen, ranging from a role in the chorus of Charlot's revue in 1925 to Charlie Girl in 1965 and My Fair Lady in 1979.
In British films, she played everything from Queen Victoria to war heroine, Odette Hallowes.
Virtually all of her films were directed and produced by Herbert Wilcox, who became her husband in 1943. They remained together until his death in 1977.
She was created a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 1952, and raised to Dame Commander (DBE) in 1969.
