Alfred Moore Scales (November 26, 1827 - February 9, 1892) was a Confederate general in the American Civil War and the Democratic governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1885 to 1889. He also served in the United States House of Representatives from 1857 to 1859. Scales became commander of the brigade formerly commanded by General William Dorsey Pender when Pender was promoted to Major General and the command of the Light Division just before the Gettysburg Campaign.
